Job Description
Overview:

The overall responsibility of this position is to maintain electrical and steam generation demands of the Plant while operating the units in a safe, efficient, reliable and environmentally sound manner.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the safe, efficient, reliable and environmentally sound operation of plant equipment
  • Understand and execute the equipment clearance procedure
  • Properly operate Control Room, Natural Gas Fired Boiler, steam turbine, plant auxiliary equipment and systems during normal and emergency operation
  • Communicate information clearly, both orally and written
  • Assist others in performance testing
  • Assist in on-the-job training of other Operators
  • Troubleshoot plant equipment to resolve operational problems
  • Generate and review Work Requests for execution of equipment repair
  • Operate various computer systems to receive, analyze, comprehend and input data
  • Monitor and record data available through the use of various instruments, recording charts, annunciator systems and other monitoring devices onto shift logs as directed by plant operational procedures
  • Assist in providing skill enhancement training to other personnel
  • Implement Plant Emergency Procedures as needed
  • Operate electric generating units to control flow and processing of electrical energy and process steam to customer
  • Observe variations in operating conditions and interpret meter and gauge readings
  • Use loose and tight fit respirators
  • Assist maintenance personnel in performance of maintenance activities to include use of tools, equipment and Company vehicles
Qualifications:
  • Ability to use addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to perform flow, pressure and meter calculations
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematic diagrams, procedures and technical manuals
  • Use hand and power tools and equipment
  • Communicate conditions of plant system and equipment to others
  • Apply knowledge of steam power plant operations and basic power plant principles to daily decision-making and work tasks
  • Operate computers and printers
  • Discern and respond to verbal and auditory signals from control panel
  • Work without supervision inspection while carrying out duties
  • Take, record and analyze readings of various electrical and mechanical meters
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate various switches and valves and the effect each has on the total operation
  • Meet physical requirements of the job such as perform tasks while standing, walking, climbing and squatting. Work with extended reach above head and in front of body and lift 50 pounds and carry while walking distances of up to 10 feet
  • Ability to operate Company vehicles and equipment and maintain operating licenses and certifications. TDL required
  • Work may require cross training and travel to other unregulated facilities

EDUCATION:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of Operator Training Program (3 years)
  • Completion of the Control Operator Training Program
  • Successful completion of the EEI POSS/MASS test.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Operator Training Program to include on-the-job training (3 years)
  • Control Operator Training with 4 years of on-the-job training
  • Equivalent experience and skill to include on-the-job training

WORKING CONDITIONS

Normal office environment and/or out of doors work environment (Including working at heights, high/low ambient temperatures and high humidity areas at generating unit work locations)

  • Work in and around rotating equipment, high voltage electrical equipment, high noise areas and elevations up to 100 feet
  • Work in all temperatures and climate conditions. Some temperatures can be extreme
  • Work in confined spaces, some requiring the use of respirator protective equipment
  • Performance of duties requires working rotating shifts and response to calls 24 hours/day, seven days/week
  • Emergency situations will require the use of respirator and climbing of stairs to reach safety shelters
  • Established facial hair in the sealing area of a respirator is not permitted
  • Contact lenses are not permitted except for specific medical reasons
  • Substantial footwear must be worn
